Super Falcons of Nigeria dropped three places from 36th to 39th position in the latest FIFA women’s world ranking released on Friday, reports.
The ranking was published on FIFA’s official website.
Despite dropping three places, the Super Falcons are still the number one team in Africa.
Another African team that dropped three places like the Super Falcons in the FIFa ranking are the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
The latest world ranking saw the Indomitable Lionesses drop to 49th position from 46th and are second on the continent.
The Banyana Banyana of South Africa however maintained their 55th position and are Africa’s third best side.
Cote d’Ivoire who eliminated the Super Falcons in the qualifiers for the football event of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, climbed six places and are now 63rd in the global ranking.
World Cup champions the United States of America remain at number one team in the world, while former world champions Germany are at number two.
In third position is the Netherlands, France occupy fourth, Sweden are fifth and England sixth.
And Australia, Canada, Brazil and Japan are seventh, eight, ninth and 10th respectively.
The next FIFA women’s world ranking will be published on 27 March 2020.
The Super Falcons are the reigning Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) champions following their triumph in Ghana in 2018.
Their winning feat at last year’s AWCON saw them qualify for this year’s FIFA women’s World Cup in France.
At the World Cup the Super Falcons got to the round of 16 where they lost 3-0 to Germany.
The last time the Super Falcons qualified from the group stage of a FIFA women’s World Cup at the 1999 edition in the USA.
The defeat to Cote d’Ivoire in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifiers means the Falcons have now failed to qualify for the Olympics since Beijing 2008.
