England youth international forward Ademola Lookman says he is open to the idea of representing Nigeria at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar although he is yet to make up his mind about the country he will represent at senior level.
The RB Leipzig forward is eligible for Nigeria but has represented England at various youth levels, the last came when he played a part in their U20 team that won the FIFA U -20 World Youth Championship two years ago.
A step up to the senior team has been talked about by coach Gareth Southgate who is now in charge of the senior team but knows about Lookman while he was his coach at U21 level. It is however believed that the fact that he is yet to stamp his authority at RB Leipzig is why he isn’t in the senior national team yet.
With just four games to his name this season in the Bundesliga, Lookman was asked about the country he will like to represent at the World Cup in Qatar 2022 if his form ends up meriting a call up to one of the two teams he is eligible to play for.
“It’s a competition I’d like to play in, for sure,” Lookman told the Daily Mail.
“That’s definitely something I need to address. I’m open and it’s good to have different opportunities. It’s a serious decision.
“We’ll see. International football is a big thing if you want to keep progressing, which I do.”
