Many were surprised to see Moise Kean taken off just 18 minutes after coming on for Everton against Manchester United, but interim coach Duncan Ferguson defended his decision.
The Toffees claimed another good result under Duncan after drawing 1-1 with the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
The result was overshadowed by Ferguson’s decision to withdraw Kean, who had only been on the pitch for 19 minutes in the second half.
Kean was left shocked as Ferguson decided against talking the player, who marched straight down the tunnel in disappointment.
“It wasn’t because of Moise Kean’s performance, it was just because I needed to make a substitution to kill a bit of time,” Ferguson told Sky Sports.
“I’ve got so many strikers on the bench, I just decided to make that change.
“It was nothing against Moise Kean really.”
