Nigeria international, Odion Ighalo failed to make the three-man list for the 2019 Africa Player of the Year award confirmed by the Confederation of Africa Football.
CAF confirmed the trio of Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah and Riyad Mahrez as the players that made the final three on its Twitter handle today.
But despite Ighalo missing out on the prestigious award, Nigeria were however represented in other categories.
The duo of Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze are in contention for the Youth Player of The Year award along with Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.
For the Women’s Coach of The Year, former Super Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby will battle Desiree Ellis of South Africa and Alain Djeumfa of Cameroon.
In the Women’s Player of The Year shortlist, Asisat Oshoala aiming for her fourth title is up against South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana and Njoya Ajara from Cameroon.
And while Nigeria is still in the race for the Women’s Team of the Year category, the country missed out for the men.
The winners will be announced during the ceremony on January 7, 2020 in Hurghada, Egypt.
