Pep Guardiola has backed John Stones – despite the Manchester City defender’s horror show against Crystal Palace .
Stones endured a torrid time in City’s 2-2 draw at home to Palace, with the centre-half struggling throughout.
Despite his error-strewn display, Guardiola said Stones still has his backing and support.
But with fellow defender Aymeric Laporte nearing a return after a five-month injury lay-off, Stones is under huge pressure to raise his level.
Asked about the criticism Stones received at the weekend, Guardiola – whose side travel to Sheffield United tomorrow – said: “It’s unfair, yes.
“We are there, I am there [for Stones]. You have ups and downs in your career, the manager always there, we know his quality.”
Asked if Laporte could be available for Tuesday, Guardiola said: “Every day he’s getting better, I have an idea but I have to think today, tonight and we’ll see.”
