Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel took out time to share his condolences and sympathy with the family and friends of late Nasarawa United’s Chineme Martins.
The defender suddenly slumped and died while playing for Nasarawa United against Katsina United an NPFL match Day 23 encounter on Sunday at Lafia City Stadium, Lafia.
Reacting on the unfortunate incident, Mikel took to his Instagram handle, to mourn the young defender.
“Rest in peace, my prayers and thought are with your family” accompanied with a crying emoji on the picture of Martins.
Interestingly, Martins fell unconscious, unopposed, during the second half of Nasarawa’s league match against Katsina United, but was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital after delays in taking him to the medical facility.
An autopsy is expected to be carried out to determine the cause of his death.
