Odion Ighalo is reportedly prepared to accept a staggering £120,000-a-week pay cut in order to turn his loan deal at Manchester United into a permanent transfer.
The Nigerian was a surprise new arrival at United at the very end of the January transfer window, joining on loan from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the current campaign.
Although the question of just when the season finishes has now been thrown into question because of the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the former Watford forward’s performances since he arrived at Old Trafford have led to plenty of suggestions that United will snap him up on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
Ighalo has scored four goals in eight appearances in all competitions for United since joining, as his displays have helped ease the burden on Anthony Martial in the absence of the injured Marcus Rashford.
And now The Sun report that the forward, 30, is willing to halve the £240,000-a-week wages he was on in China in order to complete a transfer move to his boyhood club.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Ighalo after he scored in the 5-0 win at LASK Linz last week.
“Odion has done really well since he’s come in. He will improve and get better and has qualities we saw in him that we needed and they are qualities we will still need next season,” he said .
“He’s a goalscorer and a striker. He knows his job and what his role is in the team.
“He’s very good with his back to goal and a good link player, but best thing about him is his personality. He’s got the lot, really.”
