Paris Saint-Germain have dismissed the idea of their players receiving gold-plated phones as a reward for winning the Ligue 1 title.

PSG have been crowned Ligue 1 champions by default after the French football season was cancelled.

Jewellery company iDesign Gold posted on social media that they would send each PSG player a 24 karat gold iPhone case worth 400 euros each for winning the league title.

“[iDesign Gold] have usurped the club’s name to advertise themselves by making it appear that the [first] team players had requested its services in order to produce these cases,” PSG said in statement.

“[The rewards] go against the values of the club.”

iDesign Gold manager Joaquin Calderon gave his side of the story to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

“I can’t say the figure that was spent, but PSG asked us for 29 cases,” he said.

“It was something organised between Thiago Silva and one of my associates Benjamin Lyons.”
