Mauricio Pochettino, former Spurs manager has opened up on the famous quote he made regarding managing Barcelona.
“I didn’t want to disrespect Barcelona. One can say things differently. Espanyol made me a name but I’m not arrogant and I didn’t like making a statement like that,” he said talking to El Pais.
“Maybe now I wouldn’t do it because in life you never know what will happen,” he added, hinting at his possible Barca switch.”
After Ernesto Valverde was dismissed and Xavi declined Barca’s offer, the 48-year-old was considered the best-positioned manager to take over at Barca after he was relieved of his duties by the London club. However, the board decided to go in favour of Quique Setien who was appointed in the middle of January.
The Argentine assures he didn’t want to disrespect Barca by saying that he’d rather work on his farm in Argentina than managing the Catalans.
Pochettino had a decent managerial spell with Espanyol and he brought Tottenham to a completely new level, reaching the Champions League final with the Premier League side and also putting them in the position of the ‘big boys’ in England.
