We take a look at Remo Stars defender Tiyamiyu Kazeem who was seem to be one of the most enterprising footballer who plies his trade in the Nigeria Professional Football league before his life was been cut shot by the deadly faction of the Nigeria Police Force(SARS).
Nigerian defender Tiyamiyu Kazeem, as at that time who was also the assistant captain of Remo Stars, died after he was allegedly pushed out of a vehicle by the men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the police.
Kazeem, according to Remo Stars, was driving in Sagamu with a teammate Sanni Abubakar when they were stopped by SARS officers who accused both players of being internet criminals.
Both players were made to follow the police officers with the understanding they were on their way to the police station.
They, however, noticed that the policemen were taking them elsewhere and protested. It was during the protest that the policemen allegedly pushed Kazeem also popularly known as Kaka out of the moving vehicle.
He was knocked down by another moving vehicle before he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A club statement said Kazeem was killed on Saturday, 22 February after he was hit by an oncoming car after being pushed out of a SARS vehicle conveying him to a police station on allegations of being a “Yahoo Boy” (internet fraudster) despite the player having proved his identity to the operatives.
A police unit notorious for extra-judicial killings, extortion, human rights violations, profiling of young men and disproportionate use of force, SARS has attracted the ire of Nigerians for years.
Widespread calls for its reform led the presidency to act in 2018, but critics say the directive from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the Inspector General of Police changed little and made SARS even more brutal and barbaric in its operations.
